Polarisation indipendent coherent optical receiver
The patent concerns a new type of coherent receiver for optical signals, optimized for access networks (FTTx). In the proposed scheme, it solves the dependence of the polarization-dependence of any coherent reception scheme, in a simple and economic way. Based on the proposed scheme, in the COCONUT project it has been realized a pair of transeivers that have been characterized in numerous experiments, also transmitting the common Gigabit-Ethernet traffic.
Application and market size
The main application is expected in the construction of fiber networks of medium-short distance optical (b.p. access networks and metropolitan). Especially in the access network market size is very high (an apparatus to each user's home).
